Elizabeth Roberts is in a cross roads of her life. A highly successful stockbroker. Liz agrees to help a friend who is ill out by taking on his accounts. On top of this busy schedule she entertains an idea to follow her dream and open an art gallery, leaving very little time for love or romance.
Adam made the mistake of getting involved with a fellow stockbroker on his former job and vowed not to repeat the mistake ever again. Then he meets this intriguing woman at his friends party and thoughts of her linger in his mind. Why does she leave such an impression?
Adam excepts a job in his friend's firm and runs across her best friend, Liz. The lady from the party that he could not quite forget. Standing firm on his policy, he decides to ignore her instead of pursuing the mutual attraction. But he has to learn that all women do not cheat and lie on the job.
Something is not adding up with Elizabeth's friend's accounts. She tries to talk to him but his wife tells her he is ill. So she puts it off, hoping to talk to him when he gets better. Anyway, if there is a real problem their boss will mention it. She is busy with opening the gallery and getting to know Adam better. Then he reveals why he was distant in the beginning. Will he believe that she has nothing to do with the tampered accounts.
Liz finally talks to Paul about his accounts but he does not know anything about it. When Adam finds out, he wonders about Liz and Paul. Now there is an apparent suicide of Liz's friend and someone appears to want to kill Liz.
Who is behind it, did Paul really steal and then kill himself? Can Adam trust Liz enough to believe her side of the story? Who is trying to kill Liz and why? In order to find the answers to these questions and to see if Adam and Liz stay together or apart you have to read "One Heartbeat At a Time" for yourself. A book filled with romance, suspense, and intrigue.
