Workshop Syllabus:

"Releasing The Poet From Within" will help students learn and explore the adventures in writing Christian and inspirational poetry.  This workshop is designed for all poets and poets-to be who loves to read and write poetry.  Instructions and  "hands-on" exercises will be provided throughout each session to aid in the conception and birthing process  of your poetic creation.

Through the use of imageries, sensory perceptions, and "hands-on" exercises, students will discover how to make their poetry sing and dance (without music), and give it a life of its own.  They will also discover how to use their poetry as a ministry tool to effect change in the  lives of others.

A break down of workshop:

Week One:  ADVENTURES IN WRITING CHRISTIAN OR INSPIRATIONAL POETRY:  Students will discover and explore the many different types of poetry, and how to use their poetry as a tool for ministry too?

Week Two:  STIR UP YOUR POETIC GIFTS: Students will study the poetic writings of  renown poets of their choosing..  Based upon their study, they will compose a 100 word essay describing the stirrings (inner emotions) they felt (or did not feel) afterwards.

Week Three:  HOW TO USE COLORFUL IMAGERY AND SENSORY PERCEPTION:  Students will discover that colorful imageries and sensory perceptions are vital in giving sustaining life to their poetic creation. Students will compose a poem (maximum of 32 lines) using colorful imagery and sensory perception to detail the pains, struggles, joys, and fears experienced while in the birthing process.

Week Four: GIVING BIRTH TO YOUR BABY: ( Final session)  A thorough review and recap of prior sessions will be provided before the birthing process. The birthing process begins when the first speck of ink flows from the poet's pen, and bleeds onto the blank pad or paper that awaits its arrival. Students will be instructed how to nurture and care for the new baby.  They will also be provided with suggested markets resources to send their babies forth to give life and effect change in the lives of others.

Objective:

The instructions provided in this workshop will also enable the student to create their own voice and style in writing poetry. They can also apply these same principles for other genres of creative writings in addition to the poetry genre.

Price:  $50.00
