MEET THE AUTHOR

JACQUELIN THOMAS

Shades Of Romance Magazine:  What are some of the themes you cover?

Jacquline Thomas:  I tend to write about real life issues.  There are times we experience terrible tragedies such as date rape, homelessness, death of a loved one, etc.  Unfortunately these things are apart of life but there is always hope.  There is always love.

SORM:  Tell us a bit about the characters, too.

THOMAS: My characters are often wounded creatures who have given up on love--that is until they neet that one special person who can wipe away a lifetime of pain.  Together they find love, hope for the future and a lifetime of happiness.

SORM:  What was your becoming a published writer journey like?

THOMAS:  My journey was a very simple one.  I sold the very first manuscript I ever wrote.  I'd submitted it in hopes that a kind editor would give me insight on what I was doing wrong.  I received five rejections total on Hidden Blessings before it sold to Kensington Publishing for the Arabesque line.

SORM:  Do you have a full-time career outside your writing?

THOMAS: Yes, I recently went back to work after four years of being a full-time writer.  I decided to do so because I found  that I needed to spend time around real people--and I enjoy working.  However, I look forward to writing in the evenings.

SORM:  What's the best part about being a romance writer?

THOMAS:  I love the happy endings!

SORM:  What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment as a writer and why?

THOMAS:  When I started writing I was deathly afraid that I only had one book in me.  Thirteen sales later, I'm thrilled to find that I still have plenty of stories to tell.  Nothing compares to the sense of pride I feel when I get a letter from one of my readers and they tell me how my books have touched their lives.

SORM:  If you had known then what you know now, what would you have done differently in terms of your romance writing career?

THOMAS:  I wouldn't change a thing.  I'm very happy with my career.

SORM:  Do you like communicating with your readers and in what forms (letters, email, forums)?

THOMAS:  I love to hear from my readers via email and/or snail mail.  However, I must confess that I've gotten behind in responding to snail mail.  I am much better with email.

SORM:  Any advice for those aspiring romance writers?

THOMAS: Write, write and write.  The more you write--the better you'll get.  Getting published does not happen due to talent alone, but by perserverance.

SORM:  Can you give us a peek at what we can expect from your next romance?

THOMAS: Undeniably Yours is a June release and is the long awaited story of Kaitlin Ransom and Matthew St. Charles.  For two and a half long years after the devastating plane crash, Matt has mourned the loss of his beloved Kaitlin. But just as soon as he's finally ready to start living again, he discovers that she's alive and living in Mexico with his bitterest enemy.

SHADES OF ROMANCE MAGAZINE WOULD LIKE TO THANK MS. THOMAS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DO THIS INTERVIEW.  MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU.
