We started SOR Mag because the reading internet had become a shop. Everything was new, everything was ranked, and nothing was written for the person sitting down at nine o'clock with one hour and a lamp. So: no dates on anything here, no scores, no affiliate racks. A piece is either useful in five years or it should not have been written.

The site is arranged around three devices. The journal is a tracker that lives in your browser — you add a title, mark the pages, write three lines. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no account to make. The mood shelf sorts real books by how they feel to read rather than which aisle they sit in. The pairings hand you from a book you loved to one you have not met.

What we cover

Reviews, reading lists, writing craft, the reading life and the book club. Real books by real authors, correctly attributed. Books are set in type here — no cover art, no jackets, no star ratings.

What we are not

We are independent, and we are not affiliated with any magazine of a similar name. We take one sponsor slot a season, always marked, never a paid review.
